Becoming a butterfly

This week we learned the life cycle of a butterfly and all kinds of interesting butterfly facts!

It was such a beautiful (and HOT!) week so I wanted to do something fun with the kids outside to go along with our insect study.

I bought a couple rolls of party streamers.  We took turns wrapping the kids up to represent a caterpillar chrysalis (also known as a cocoon, depending on it's breed!)

We learned this week that a caterpillar typically stays in it's chrysalis  for 12-14 days before it breaks free and flys off as a beautiful butterfly.

We were going to shorten that chrysalis time to...oh..say about 12-14 seconds! :)

It's time, to become a butterfly and fly away!
