Hey PA!

This week in our Read Across America tour, we stopped at my home state, Pennsylvania!

We read Mercy Watson to the Rescue  by Kate DiCamillo.

Kate DiCamillo was born in Philadelphia, PA.  We decided to make our stop right there in her hometown!

There is so much to learn about Philadelphia!  So many facts that we talked about...from Betsy Ross making the first American flag, the first newspaper was published in Philadelphia and of course...what is that big giant bell??

That's the Liberty Bell!

We learned facts about the Liberty Bell and we each wrote one fact that we learned.

Did you know??

The Liberty Bell is 2,080 pounds!

The crack on the bell is 24.5 inches long by 1/2 inch wide.

It hangs from what is believed to be the original yoke made from America elm.

In February, 1846 it rang for George Washington's birthday and hours later it received the fatal crack.
It hasn't been rung since.
